Já vím, docela mi to trvalo dát dohromady. Ale na svou obranu musím říct: ten únor je vážně krátkej, že jo?! Každopádně doufám, že se vám písničky budou líbit.

Here we are with another batch of interesting tunes! There are some very nice and fresh tracks in the February edition of Music Monthly. I know, it took me a while to get this done. In my defence: that February really is short, isn't it? And some interesting artists for you to meet. Anyway, I hope you enjoy the songs.
Začneme s nečím velmi známým a oblíbeným mezi všeobecnou veřejností. Ještě jednou pro vás mám Coldplay. Tentokrát s třetím singlem jejich aktuálního alba Mylo Xyloto. Singl se jmenuje Charlie Brown a videoklip je barevný a svítivý! Kdopak se na ně v září chystáte do Prahy? :)

Let's dig in with a very familiar name among the favourite bands of general public. Once again, I give you Coldplay. This time with the third single from their current album Mylo Xyloto. The single is called Charlie Brown and the video is colourful and glowy! Anybody going to see them in Prague in September? :)

To další je úžasná písnička! Slyšela jsem ji už dřív, ale až na začátku února mě zaujala natolik, že jsem si ji musela najít: Kdo to zpívá a o co tam jako jde... Protože jsem si nebyla moc jistá, že jí správně rozumím. A zjistila jsem moc zajímavé věci. Kapela se jmenuje Foster the People, písnička Pumped Up Kicks a je to o propukání násilí na školách. Inspirace pochází z jednoho z těch střeleckých masakrů na střední škole. Sestřenice jednoho ze členů kapely toho totiž byla svědkem. Písnička se jakoby snaží proniknout do myšlení někoho, kdo by takovou věc udělal, snaží se pochopit proč... Hodně lidí ji špatně pochopilo a mysleli, že toleruje nebo schvaluje násilí. Nicméně ve skutečnosti byla napsána, aby se o tomhle tématu víc mluvilo, aby byla snaha přijít na to, co může někoho přimět k takovým extrémním činům, a aby se tomu dalo preventivně zabránit. Co je naprosto geniální je kontrast mezi tou veselou (a dost chytlavou) melodií a tím temným obsahem, který si uvědomíte až když budete hodně pozorně poslouchat, o čem se tam vlastně zpívá. Now the next one is an amazing tune! I had heard it before, but only at the beginning of February I got so interested that I had to look it up: Who's the artist and what's it all about... For I wasn't too sure if I understood it correctly. And it turned out to be very interesting. The band is called Foster the People, the song Pumped Up Kicks and it is about breakouts of violence at schools. It was insipired by one of those shooting massacres at a high school, which was witnessed by a cousin of one of the band members. The song sort of tries to get in the head of a person who would do such a thing, it tries to understand why... Many people have misinterpeted the track, saying it condones violence. The truth actually is that it has been written to raise awarness, to make it a discussed topic, so there would be attempts to study what can bring somebody to this kind of extreme actions and what can be done to prevent it. What's absolutely brilliant about this song, is the contrast of the happy (and very catchy) tune and the darkness of what the lyrics actually say.

A další zajímavá věcička. Dneska jsou to samé zajímavé věcičky :) Gotye je belgicko-australský zpěvák, který teprve teď dosáhl mezinárodního úspěchu se singlem Somebody That  Used To Know (kde hostuje novozélandská zpěvačka Kimbra). Písnička upoutala moji pozornost, protože je poměrně jedinečná, rozhodně ne něco, co byste očekávali na mainstreamové radio stanici. A přece si probojovala cestu k uším mnoha lidí :) Druhá věc, která mě zaujala. bylo že když jsem ji slyšela, byla jsem přesvědčená, že refrén zpívá Sting. Říkala jsem si: „To je zajímavé, kdo ukecal Stinga, aby jim zpíval v písničce?“ Dohledala jsem si to a tadaaa: není to Sting, je to Gotye. Mimochodem, momentálně je na prvním místě UK žebříčku singlů. Takže tady je: videoklip je taky moc zajímavý a umělecký. Rozhodně stojí za shlédnutí.

And another interesting piece I've got for you. It's all interesting pieces today :) Gotye is a Belgian-Australian guy, who only now has reached international succes with his single Somebody That I Used To Know (featuring a New Zealand singer by the name of Kimbra). The song got my attention, because it's quite unique, deffinitely not what you would expect to hear on a mainstream radio station. And yet it found its way to the ears of many. The second selling point for me was that hearing it, I was convinced that the chorus was sung by Sting. "Intersting," I thought, "Who's got Sting to feature on their track?" I looked it up and tadaaa: it's not Sting, it's Gotye. Btw, it's currently no.1 in the UK chart. Here it is, the music video is quite interesting and artistic as well. Definitely worth watching.

Kohopak tu mám dál? Poslední dvě únorové písničky jsou tu, aby vás seznámili s mladými a slibnými umělci Británie. První z nich je jednadvacetiletý zrzavý písničkář Ed Sheeran. Už je dokonce k slyšení i v českém radio-prostoru. Poprvé prorazil minulý rok se singlem The A Team a později na podzim měl další hit Lego House. Minulý týden vyhrál Ed dvě ceny BRIT Awards: nejlepší zpěvák, a nejlepší... něco jako "skokan roku". Také živě vystoupil během předávacího ceremoniálu a vy teď máte jedničnou možnost tohle vystoupení vidět. To je to totiž na Edovi kouzelné: že může jen stát před obrovským publikem, hrát na kytaru, zpívat tím svým úžasným hlasem a ... No posuďte sami ;) Let's see, who's next. The last two songs for the month of February are here to introduce you to the young and promising British artists. First of them is a 21-year-old singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran. He can even be heard on  Czech radio stations nowadays. He broke through last year with his signle The A Team and then later in the autumn he had another big hit with Lego House. Only last week Ed won 2 BRIT Awards: best British Male Solo Artist and best British Breakthrough Act. He also performed live at the awards ceremony, and you can now have the pleasure of seeing that performace. That's what is so magical about Ed Sheeran: he can just stand there in front of a huge audience, play his guitar, sing with that great voice of his and... Well see for yourself ;)

Poslední, s kým vás dneska seznámím je mladá britská autorka, třiadvacetiletá slečna jménem Emeli Sandé. V poslednícj pát letech psala písničky, pro docela známé lidi. Teď proráží jako sólová zpěvačka. Na BRIT Awards vyhrála cenu kritiků. A tady je její aktuální singl: Next To Me. Poslouchejte pozorně a schválně, jestli poznáte o kom zpívá ;) The last person you are meeting today is, again, a young British singer-songwriter: a 23-year-old girl by the name of Emeli Sandé. Aparantely she has been writing tracks for a lot of big names in the last few years. And just now she's breaking through as a solo artist. She has won the Critic's Choice at the BRIT Awards. And here is her current single: Listen carefully and see if you can tell whom she is singing about ;)

Tak to je všechno :) Nemůžu se zbavit pocitu, že ten únorový výběr je tak nějak předvídatelný... Nějak pochybuju, že je tam aspoň jedna písnička, kterou byste ještě neznali. Co říkáte, jak se vám to líbilo? No, třeba tento měsíc objevím něco netradičního a šokujícího. Naviděnou přístě ;) So that's it from me :) I can't get rid of the feeling that the February selection of songs is somewhat predictable...
