Ehm... Sorry. Vážně nevím, co se stalo a proč má tenhle příspěvek třítýdenní zpoždění. Obávám se, že nemám žádnou rozumnou omluvu. Možná jenom to, že toto májové vydání je pro mě z nějakého ne zcela vysvětlitelného důvodu určitým způsobem zvláštní. Chtěla jsem si dát záležet, aby to bylo udělané fakt dobře, což se (překvapivě) ukázalo být časově náročnější, než jsem očekávala. Tak. Konec výmluv. Hudba. Teď.

Ermm... Sorry! I don't really know what happened and why I am 3 weeks late with this post. I don't have any reasonable excuses, I'm afraid. Maybe only that this May issue is somehow in a not quite explicable way special to me, and I wanted to make sure it would be done really well. Which, (surprise, surprise!) turned out to be more time consuming than I had expected. There. No more apologies. Music. Now.
Koncem dubna a začátkem května jsem se, abych tak řekla, znovu setkala se svým zalíbením v akustické kytaře, které bylo vždycky součástí mého života. Má to něco společného s mými bratry nebo co... A tak, když byl oživen tento starý plamen, vrátila jsem se v čase a znova poslouchala Glena Hansarda a soundtrack k filmu Once (2006, s Markétou Irglovou získali Oscara za nejlepší píseň). Svého času to byla srdeční záležitost. A ze všech písní na soundtracku, takhle je moje úplně nejoblíbenější. Mohla bych ji poslouchat pořád dokola a ztrácet se v té neobvyklé harmonii a souzvuku nástrojů...

At the end of April and beginning of May I was, so to say, reunited with my soft spot for acoustic guitars, which has always been a part of my life. It has something to do with my brothers or what not... And so, reviving the old flame, I turned back in time and listened again to Glen Hansard and the OST of Once (a film he did with Marketa Irglova in 2006. They won the Academy Award for the best original song.) For me it was a matter of the heart in its time. And out of all the tracks, this one is by far my favourite. I can listen to it again and again, get lost in the unusual harmony and blending of the instruments...

 

Následující kousek je představitelem dalšího hudebního stylu, který je mi velmi blízký, a nemyslím, že by tu něm zatím padla zmínka. Jde o swing a jazz 30. - 40. let :) Soubor, se kterým se za chvíli setkáte, určitě patří mezi nejlepší interprety tohoto stylu vůbec: Ondřej Havelka a jeho Melody Makers. Měla jsem už několikrát to štěstí být na jejich koncertě. Důvod, proč se objevují právě v květnovém vydání Music Monthly, je prostý. 8. května měli koncert, který byl součástí oslav výročí konce 2. světové války. S volným vstupem! Což je příležitost, jakou není radno si nechat ujít. Pustím vám jeden z jejich videoklipů, který kromě úžasné hudby a talentu ukazuje také jejich specifický, velmi důstojný, nicméně neskutečné vtipný smysl pro humor, který je vždy součástí jejich živých vystoupení. This next one represents yet another style of music that I am very fond of, and I don't think it has been mentioned here before. It's the sort of 30's - 40's swing and jazz :) And this orchestra that you're about to meet, must be one of the finest interprets there is in this style: Ondřej Havelka & his Melody Makers. I was lucky enough to see them in concert a few times already. But the reason why they appear in this particular issue of Music Monthly is simple. I saw them on the 8th May when they performed as a part of the celebrations of the anniversary of the end of the WWII. For free! which is an opportunity not to be missed! I'll show you one of their music videos, which showcases not only the wonderful music and talent, but also the specific, very dignified, but hillarious none the less, sense of humour that is always a part of their concerts.

 

Jelikož jsem televizní závislák, zvláště pokud jde o televizi britskou, nemohla jsem si nechat ujít letošní Britain's Got Talent. A věřte mi, letos byla úroveň talentu vyšší než kterýkoli rok předtím. Důkazem toho je fakt, že dva ze  soutěžících, kteří se dostali do finále (jedna skupina a jeden zpěvák), byli autoři svých vlastních písniček. Nikdo z nich nakonec nevyhrál. (Jak se zdá, tančící pes přebíjí původní písničky.) Nicméně hodně lidí se shoduje, že pro tyhle lidičky na konečném výsledku vlastně nezáleží. Televizní pořad jim prospěl, protože je dostal do povědomí veřejnosti. A jsou natolik talentovaní, že můžou být úspěšní, přesto, že skončili na 4. a 5. místě. Oba tito interpreti a jejich písničky se mi moc líbili, a tak bych vám je ráda představila. Protože se ve skutečnosti nemůžu rozhodnout, koho mám radši. Jako první je to skupina s názvem Loveable Rogues :) Bylo to těžké rozhodování, ale pustím vám druhou z písniček, které v talent show hráli. I když ta první (Lovesick) se u publika (včetně mě) okamžitě stala hitem. Tohle je jejich vystoupení z finálového večera. Stejně jako ta první písnička, je to skvěle napsané a chytlavé. Jmenuje se Honest. Being the television junkie that I am, especially when it comes to British telly, I couldn't miss this year's season of Britain's Got Talent. And let me tell you, this year there was more talent than any of the years before. Proving this fact, two of the acts in the final (a band and a singer) were original songwriters. None of them had won in the end. (Apparantely, a dancing dog beats original songwriting.) However many people agree that for these guys the actual result does not really matter. The show did them good, because it  got them noticed. And they are naturally talented enough to be succesful even if they finished 4th and 5th. Anyway I liked these two acts very much, and the songs they perfromed, so I would like to introduce you to both of them. Because I cannot decide which one I like better. First up is a band called Loveable Rogues :) It wasn't an easy decision, but I will give you the second song they performed on the show, even though the first one (Lovesick) was an instant hit with the audience (including me). This is their performance in the final. Just as the first song it's brilliantly written and catchy. This one is called Honest.

 

A v souladu s mojí akusticko-kytarovou fází, druhý ze BGT soutěžících, kterého vám představím, je irský písničjář Ryan O'Shaugnessy. I on v pořadu hrál dvě ze svých vlastních písniček a stal se velmi populárním, především kvůli romantickému pozadí jeho tvorby... Ale jeho úžasný talent je přesto  neoddiskutovatelný! Chápejte tuhle písničku, No Name, napsal o svojí kamarádce, do které byl zamilovaný. Ale ona to nevěděla. A pak šel a zazpíval to na konkurzu Britain's Got Talent... Tomu říkám nervy :D Abychom se ale vrátili k tomu důležitému, což je hudba: je to tak nádherné! (jo jo, co nadělám. kluk s kytarou.) Obojí i hudba i text jsou velmi dobře napsané. Tak pěkný poslech :) And in harmony with my acoustic guitar phase, the second BGT act I'll intruduce to you, is an Irish singer-songwriter, who goes by the name of Ryan O'Shaughnessy. He also performed two of his original songs on the show and became wildly popular, mainly because of the romantic story behind... But his amazing talent is undeniable nevertheless! You seey this song, No Name, he's written it about his friend that he's been in love with. Only she didn't really know and then he went and sang it at the BGTvauditions... Talk about nerves :D Anyway, getting to the important bit, which is the music: it's just so sweet! (yep, what can I do. it's a guy with a guitar.) very well written both in music and lyrics. Enjoy :)

 

Poslední píseň tohoto měsíce je... hodně vyjímečná. Asi to bude ta nejdůležitější. A krásně nás převede do měsíce června. Je to píseň, která byla napsaná pro Její Veličenstvo královnu na oslavu jejího diamantového jubilea (jestli nevíte, co to je, to je výročí, že je Alžběta II. 60 let na trůně). Tu písničku napsali Gary Barlow (ano, ten týpek z Take That) a Lord Andrew Lloyd Webber (ano, ten týpek, co dělá muzikály). A teď to nejlepší: nahráli ji umělci z celého Commonwealthu. Gary Barlow procestoval Commonwealth křížem krážem a nahrál tu kytaristu, tam orchestr, tu dětský sbor, tam bubeníka... Je to nádherná myšlenka, že lidé z celého Commonwelathu jsou zahrnuti a učastní se oslav královniny vlády. Hlavní hlas zpívá sbor Military Wives Choir (což je sbor složený z manželek a partnerek britských vojáků). Už by to prostě nemohlo být víc britské!!! A všichni tihle lidi přijeli do Londýna a zahráli a zazpívali tuhle písničku královně na velkém koncertu k diamantovému jubileu, který se konal přímo před Buckinghamským palácem (a byl ooooobrovský a vystupovaly v něm hvězdy ze všech dekád vlády Jejího Veličenstva.) Takže... tady je. Jak jsem už řekla, je prostě speciální. Protože je pro královnu. Ale i kdyby nebyla... je důležitá pro mně, jako pro zpěvačku ve sboru. Dobře poslouchejte text a možná porozumíte proč.

P.S. Málem bych zapomněla! Princ Harry tam hraje na tamburínu! talentovaný hoch :)

Well and the last of this month's tunes, is... very special. Probably the most important one. And it will lead us nicely into the month of June. This is a track that was written for Her Majesty the Queen in celebration of her Diamond Jubilee (if you don't know what that is, it's her 60 years on the throne). The song was written by Gary Barlow (yes, the Take That bloke) and Lord Andrew Lloyd Webber (yes, the musicals bloke). And here comes the best part: it was recorded by artists all over the Commonwealth. Gary Barlow traveled the width and breadth of the Commonwealth and recorded a gutarist here, an orchestra there, a children choir here, a drummer there...  And I absolutely love the idea behind this, that the people from all the Commonwealth are included and participate in the celebration of the Queen's reign. The main vocals are sung by Military Wifes Choir (wifes and partneres of british soldiers). There just couldn't be anything more British!!! And all these people travelled to London and performed the song for the Queen in the big Diamond Jubilee concert that took place right outside of Buckingham Palace (and it was huuuuge and featured artists from all the decades of Her Majesty's reign). Anyway... here's the song. As I've said, it is a special one. Because it's for the Queen. But even if it wasn't... it's special for me as a singer in a choir. Listen to the lyrics and maybe you'll understand why.
P.S. Oh, I've almost forgotten! It features Prince Harry on the tambourine! talented boy :)

 

Ještě jednou se hluboce omlouvám za  ostudné zpoždění tohoto příspěvku. A ve svém i ve vašem zájmu doufám, že už se to nestane. Pokusím se zařídit, aby už se to nestalo. Řekla bych "Na viděnou za měsíc", ale další měsíc začíná asi za 10 dní, takže... Na viděnou mnohem dřív :)) Once again I deeply apologize for the shamefull delay of this article. And for my and for your sake as well, I hope it will never happen again. I will try to make sure it doesn't. I'd say "See you in a month", but the next month starts in about 10 days, so...
