I know what you’re thinking. “She said she would post the next one on time. And she didn’t. Again.” True (although I'm 4 days better than last month), but in my defence I have some pretty solid alibi this time. It includes hospital and generally a lot of lying down and not being able to do things. No, not even typing. Have you ever tried to type while you’re in bed, lying on your front? Don’t bother. It’s rubbish. The good news is that things seem to be getting better, so presumably my typing abilities will improve as well. Now enough of unimportant chit-chat, let’s listen to some music! There are a few good songs that I’m really excited about, in this edition :)

I thought I had written a separate article on these guys, but it seems I was wrong. Another thing that I wanted to do and never got around to it. Nevertheless I am certain I have mentioned Rizzle Kicks before and here they are once again. I think they must be the first band/artists whatever, that actually made me listen to and appreciate rap lyrics. As soon as I saw the title of this track, I knew it was the right kind of song for me :) And then the lyrics just blew me away with their depth and relevance. Moreover, the backing track is the most relaxed and mellow jazzy little thing I’ve ever heard. Here it is for you: Earl Grey, sugar and milk :) Be sure to appreciate the subtitles, they really help :)

Now, if I say “Gangnam Style” to you, you will probably imagine the internet craze of 2012, the super catchy party tune that evokes some silly dance moves, which for some reason appear to be worldwide popular. Well, think again, dear readers, and give a listen to this absolutely unique and, I’m not afraid to say, special cover of said song. It was made by two (very pretty) Australian girls of Korean origin, who gave it their own style and turned it into a rather subtle and charming experience. The twin sisters, Janice and Sonia, have amazing voices that blend really well in the sometimes slightly unexpected harmonies. Another up side of the video is that if for some reason you are trying to learn Korean, the nature of the video and the girls’ beautiful enunciation make it very easy to lip-read and try to sing along. Which is always good practice if you’re learning a new language :)

Try as you may, you cannot escape from Robbie Williams taking back the pop music crown. This is the third single from his current album. It’s called Be A Boy and although it may seem quite simple and generally… not “great” (like for example Candy), it still is a good song. For some reason it connects with my inner Robbie Williams and makes me feel like there is something very deep and important going on in that song. The only problem I have is that when I’m singing along, really getting into the feel and the meaning of the lyrics, it still is very weird to belt out that I want to “Be A Boy”. I don’t. I guess I must remember not to sing this song in public to avoid confusion and misinformation.

P.S. Note the beauuuuuutiful saxophone part! The world needs more retro sax!

There is no special reason to put in the next song, only… it is quite good :) And I really like the music video that combines animation with real-life acting. Although, I must be honest, it took me a few times to completely understand the story it depicts. Still a good song though. Miss Atomic Bomb by The Killers.

And now for something slightly less mainstream: One of the many good things that came out of having a new telly is that I can actually watch some music channels. I stumbled upon this song very, very accidentally and then found myself listening to it on repeat for about a week or so. It’s difficult to put a finger on what exactly it is that fascinates me so much about this song. The music video for one, is very… imaginative, colourful, inventive… It is somewhat weird and wonderful and bursting with creative energy. And then there is the captivating chorus, with the words so brilliantly mumbled that the first time I heard it (while watching the video) I was convinced that it was sung in some kind of an ancient native American language. Which of course made it extremely interesting! I was catching glimpses of what seemed like English words, but it just didn’t make any sense… Hah :D It turns out I was wrong :) The chorus is in English. It has a meaning and everything. I dare you to understand what it says without looking up the lyrics online. If you can, then hats off to you, my friend, your listening skills in English are better than mine :) This song has also re-awakened my desire to make my own music videos, which has been going on and off for a few months, but I suspect it will go to sleep again for now. Who knows, maybe one day… Well, here we go: We Are the People by Empire Of The Sun.
